Dragon Ball is back in a big way. With the release of the Xenoverse video game, Funko PoP figures, and the new animated film dropping this summer, Dragon Ball is once again a hot commodity here in the US. That’s all well and good, but there is still one piece missing from the Dragon Ball puzzle -A television series.
Looks like the great King Kai in the sky thought the same thing as its just been announced that a new television series will be coming very soon. This new show is entitled, Dragon Ball Super, and Famitsu is reporting the show will be written by Dragon Ball veteran and creator, Akira Toriyama.
Dragon Ball Super looks to be set sometime after Goku defeats Majin Buu in the DBZ timeline. Producer Osamu Nozaki had the following to say about this new series:
As I read the plot I’ve already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear…”
Dragon Ball Super marks the series return to television after 18 years off the air. The last time we saw Dragon Ball on the air was in the form of Dragon Ball GT, which I don’t even think is canon to the series anymore -Also, it was a really silly show.
Dragon Ball Super is set to premiere on FujiTV this July in Japan. No word if, or when, the show will make it out west, but I’m sure rabid fans will get the subs rolling in record time.
