SafeTech lowers price for their Bluetooth Quicklock Padlock

Anyone that has ever gone to high school knows about using a combination padlock on your locker. These things have been around since the beginning of time and have seen little improvement. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s an untapped market, or that the padlock seems to be a perfectly functioning device, but SafeTech has come to the apparent rescue.

The Quicklock Padlock claims that you will no longer fumble for keys or wracking your brain to remember combinations (three sets of numbers is hard), The Quicklock Padlock is an incredibly unique RFID and Bluetooth-enabled electronic padlock that unlocks with either your smartphone or the wave of a RFID fob or label. The easy-to-use Quicklock app (iOS or Android) even keeps track of who has opened your padlock and when. No phone? No problem. Stick an NFC label on your wallet or slap an NFC-enabled bracelet on your kid’s wrist. A simple wave gives quick access to your stuff to anyone you want—and keeps out the rest.

I’ve spent time with Bluetooth (that thing is in everything now) deadbolts and covered home based solutions, but now you can get that same thing in padlock form. I think it’s a neat idea, but I’m not sure how many bracelets, key-cards, apps, and FOBs I can keep on me at one time for all my stuff. The lock itself has dropped to $50, but when you take into account that a normal combination lock runs for less than $5, it’s hard to get excited about the Quicklock. Although, if I had a bike in a big city this might really be something I’d look into.
