Sony To Mostly Phase Out PS4 Games From PlayStation Plus Free Monthly Games

5 years into the gen, they’ve decided to stop giving you PS4 games.

Yes, the time has (or rather, will) come. PlayStation Plus will stop offering PS4 games as a key benefit for their free monthly games.

The news comes from a PlayStation Blog post covering February’s free games (Payday 3 – PS5, High On Life – PS4/PS5, Pac-Man World Re-Pac – PS4/PS5). According to the blog post, They will no longer offer games exclusively for the PS4 through PlayStation Plus’s free monthly games starting January 2026. This doesn’t affect games already acquired through previous months, nor does it mean that you won’t see PS4 games on offer as free monthly games. Rather, they’re just not going to be guaranteed each month, and if you do see PS4 games on offer, they’ll most likely be available for both PS4 and PS5, like the latter two games available next month.

As they put it, this is mainly to focus on providing PS5 support through the program.

PlayStation Plus

This is considered a bold move, as it’s a well-known fact that PS5 has no games.

On the plus side, you still have a year of PS4 and PS5 games of highly variable quality (I’m going to point out that January’s big PS5 freebie was the already dead Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League). Hell, often times the best game in a month is the smallest of the lot; go figure.
