A new generation of women will learn what true Sim torture is all about.
Sims fans have kept the lights on in the hopes of the first two games getting remastered for modern systems. And it seems EA is answering those prayers. No doubt, another finger curls upon the monkey’s paw.
They’ve had a number of teasers for this, part of their The Sims 25th anniversary roadmap, which has teased updates for The Sims 4. Though they’ve obviously been teasing more than just that; the games were teased through sound effects in a “Behind The Sims” presentation earlier in the month. Merch for The Sims 2 has also begun to pop up.
According to someone close to the project, both games will be released digitally on PC later in the week. And what’s more, they’ll contain all of their expansion packs. There is no word on whether or not these games will make it to consoles as of yet.
The Sims, released back in 2000, has never had a digital release, being completely disc-only for the past 25 years. While The Sims 2 did have a digital release, it was taken offline over a decade ago, with the only new digital copies available being part of an Ultimate Collection exclusive to Origin, which required some ridiculous hoops for users to jump through just to get, and hasn’t been available at all since 2018. Also, there were around 4-6 versions of The Sims 2 for consoles that were all different, and none of them were backported to PC.
The Sims 4, on the other hand, continues to get updates 11 years after its initial release. We are talking about a game that you can now get for free, which once had over $500 of DLC. It’s currently more like $240, but that’s still around 3 1/2 new games in DLC. So it’s no wonder that EA haven’t exactly been moved to make a The Sims 5 until very recently.
