Sega looks to be ready to take another swing at Ecco the Dolphin.
Gematsu via Twitter has recently spotted trademarks filed in Japan just after Christmas regarding Ecco the Dolphin. This classic Sega character was all over the original Sega Genesis/Mega Drive run with a number of outings.
His last video game was Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, released on the Dreamcast and later ported to the PS2. The original creator of Ecco tried to restart the franchise with a spiritual successor in The Big Blue, but that crowdfunding outing did not meet its goal.
Perhaps in regard to the trademark filing, UK publisher Read Only Memory announced that Sega asked to remove references to Ecco the Dolphin in an upcoming reprint of their book Sega Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works.
