Xbox Cloud Gaming Headed To Amazon Fire TV

Xbox

Enjoy many games you don’t own.

Coming straight from the horse’s mouth, Xbox is headed to your Amazon Fire TV-capable devices. The service will be available across 25 countries.

All you’ll need is an Amazon Fire TV device (noted are the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023) ($59.99) and Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) ($49.99), both of which will get the service in July), a bluetooth-enabled wireless controller (I’d recommend one of these), and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.

With that, you’ll have access to Xbox’s catalogue of cloud-enabled games. Some choice recommendations, some by Xbox themselves (in italics), some my own (in bold):

  • Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
  • Starfield
  • Forza Horizon 5
  • Fallout 76
  • Fallout 4
  • Yakuza 0-6 + Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon Ishin and Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name
  • Hi-Fi Rush, a great game that sold poorly due to being on Game Pass day 1, which then had its studio shuttered due to corporate shenanigans.
  • Hollow Knight
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • It runs DOOM. Like, all of them

Oh, and in case you don’t have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, you can still play Fortnite through the service for free.

They also gave a helpful guide to setting up your Xbox experience on Amazon Fire TV:

  • Simply install and launch the Xbox app from your Fire TV device.
  • Sign in with your Microsoft account to play. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll have instant access to hundreds of cloud-enabled games.
  • Not a member? No worries! You can join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for one low monthly price, or check out Fortnite without a membership.
  • Connect a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller. Controllers like the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4 controller are all compatible.
  • Start Playing!

Amazon has their own news article in regard to Xbox coming to their devices, but it’s notable less in-depth. While it’s unlikely that any gamer in your life will be too interested, this might be a cost-effective way to take the Xbox experience on the go, considering the fact that Amazon Fire TV sticks are sub-$100 and you can pretty much fit them in any bag. Well, as long as wherever you’re going has decent wi-fi and a TV.
