Microsoft Claims Next Xbox Will Biggest Technological Leap Yet

Xbox

That sounds healthy.

Recently, there was a “business update” on Xbox’s future plans for the brand. Last week saw user morale at an all-time low following the announcement that four of Xbox’s previous exclusives would become multiplatform, available on both the Switch and PS5. So it’s not hard to imagine that this “update” was meant, at least in part, to stem the tantrum spiral of brand loyalists.

The update came via the official Xbox podcast, and featured Xbox president Sarah Bond, Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer, and head of Xbox game studios Matt Booty.

And as a means to get ahead of things, Bond claimed that the next generation Xbox will be “the largest technical leap…ever seen in a hardware generation.”

In addition, this holiday season will see Microsoft share “”some exciting stuff coming out in hardware”. As to what that might be, who knows? Could be new anything from peripherals to that gassed-up new Xbox. This was also accompanied by the following tweets:

Circling back to that massive hardware leap, Bond finished on the following:

Phil Spencer also had an interview with The Verge, in which he reiterated the company’s devotion to their hardware:

While the leaks from late last year indicate that a Series X revision without a disc drive and a controller with a swappable battery were on the horizon, as well as a 2028 release window for that next gen Xbox, that might not be accurate anymore. In a memo from around that time, Phil Spencer claimed that that info was outdated, presumably due to a number of changes to those plans. We may very well have to wait until that Holiday showcase to discover just what’s happening over at the house Master Chief built.
