Your Majesty, where the hell is Dino Time?
Chances are, if you’re familiar with the old YouTube Poop scene, you’re also familiar with the Phillips CD-i and its absolutely terrible Zelda games, as well as how they were made. And it’s also entirely possible that you’ve heard about the upcoming Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, which draws artistic inspiration from those CD-i Zelda titles. It even reunites several members of the voice cast!
The one thing worth noting, however, is that Limited Run Games didn’t decide to stop there, as they are publishing Arzette. No, no, they’ve aimed higher. Because in order for you to get the proper experience, they’ve recreated the Phillips CD-i’s infamously terrible controller, for use on Nintendo Switch and PC. Though, naturally, they had to call it the generic “Retro Inspired Switch & PC Controller”
There’s very little information on the features of the controller itself, other than that it comes in “Faramore Fuchsia” in the collector’s edition bundle for Arzette. Though it’s hard to imagine that it’ll be as awful as the Phillips original, regardless of form. Indeed, if they continue to produce it, it may become the go-to choice for those playing the “PC versions” of CD-i games when they want to get the original experience, minus the frustration of everything about it sucking.
The Retro Inspired Switch & PC Controller is currently available for pre-order, as is Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore. The game will release, presumable alongside the controller, on February 14th, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
