Samsung Shows The First Transparent MicroLED Screen At CES 2024

That’s the ticket, laddie.

The Future is transparent… well, at least as far as Samsung’s displays are concerned. As part of their First Look event at CES this year, they showed off a number of transparent panels. The most notable was the transparent MicroLED display; while there were also transparent OLED and LED displays there, they merely served to highlight just how good the MicroLED display looked. And, in addition to being transparent, the design is also frameless.

Transparent displays create something of a holographic effect. While notable on their OLED displays, the MicroLED turns things up to 11. The sheer pixel density of the display makes things pop even more. While there’s nothing like seeing the real thing in person, Samsung has uploaded a single video of this transparent MicroLED in action.

Moreover, according to a Samsung spokesperson, the MicroLED isn’t just a matter of being on the cutting edge for the display. MicroLED displays are the next big thing due to how much brighter they are than their predecessors, true. But for this transparent display, they also make the display more resistant to interference from ambient light.

Sadly, there’s no word on when these might hit the market, much less price. Then again, Samsung’s 110-inch MicroLED television will currently set you back a cool $150,000, so your average consumer might not be seeing these on their desktop anytime soon.
