Pony-Inspired Fighter Them’s Fightin’ Herds To End Development With Unfinished Story Mode

Them's Fightin' Herds

Well, at least you’ll get those remaining DLC characters.

If you remember a time when the internet was infested by Bronies, there was a fan-made fighting game based on the then-current My Little Pony generation. Needless to say, Hasbro did not approve, and one C&D later, the group responsible had to figure out what to do with their already considerable amount of work. Luckily, Lauren Faust came to the rescue, and designed a bunch of original characters so that the game could carry on, and that was the birth of Them’s Fightin’ Herds.

Having finally left early access in 2020, it seemed that there was a roadmap for the additional content to come, including a long-promised story mode. It seems, however, that this unfinished story mode will never be complete. A recent announcement has confirmed that after the next update, which will include two DLC characters, Them’s Fightin’ Herds will be ending development. And yes, the story mode is a casualty of this decision.

This announcement has naturally inspired a negative reviewbomb. Primarily because this was a promised feature, though it probably didn’t help that this news was relayed at nearly the bottom of a post announcing two DLC characters. It’s also worth noting that, as the game was crowdfunded, they’re catching a lot more flak for such a decision than your average indie game. They did address the fact that some aspects of the campaign backer rewards would need to be adjusted:

Not mentioned anywhere, however, is exactly why they’ve decided to end active development. And until the address the horse elephant in the room, it’s not hard to imagine that the users burned by this are going to continue to stew.
