You don’t see wood paneling on consoles anymore…

Chances are, you know about the legend of the Atari 2600. And, considering the fact that the current Atari want’s you to remember that legend (minus the last bit), they’ve partnered with PLAION to bring the hardware back to life.

Enter the Atari 2600+. According to the company, the 2600+ is a “modern day faithful recreation” of the home console that built a company, capable of playing all the original game cartridges, as well as Atari 7800 carts. But it’s not just the original hardware; it comes with modern conveniences, like HDMI output, USB power, and modern screen resolutions, including widescreen support.

The console comes with a CX40+ Joystick which has been “lovingly recreated to the same specifications as the original”. It also comes with a 10-in-1 game cartridge which features some of the platform’s greatest hits:

  • Adventure®
  • Combat®
  • Dodge ‘Em™
  • Haunted House®
  • Maze Craze™
  • Missile Command®
  • RealSports® Volleyball
  • Surround™
  • Video Pinball™
  • Yars’ Revenge®

There will also be other cartridges available at launch, such as Mr. Run and Jump. As a matter of fact, they’ve been producing new cartridges of their classics for a while now, though they’re currently (as of this writing, at least) sold out of everything, meaning that 10-in-1 pack-in might be a godsend if you no longer have any originals.
