Oh no.
No longer will you be able to promote your other social media accounts on Twitter. On the 18th, Twitter enacted a new policy that bans the promotion of certain social media site profiles. Notably, the banned site profiles include Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post. In addition, both Linktree and Lnk.Bio are banned; these sites are used by creators and businesses as a hub for all of their profiles, so it’s no surprise that they’re also banned.
This naturally caused the usual hyberbolic “the sky is falling” responses from users. The reality, at least right now, is not as grim as they make it out to be. While linking directly to profiles (or in other words, promoting) is banned, linking to a specific post on another social media site is allowed. And, any site not listed on the Twitter help center page can be linked to and promoted by name as you so wish.
In addition, of you really want to promote and link to a given account on one of the listed sites, you can simply pay to promote that post on Twitter.
We recognize that certain social media platforms provide alternative experiences to Twitter, and allow users to post content to Twitter from these platforms. In general, any type of cross-posting to our platform is not in violation of this policy, even from the prohibited sites listed above.
Additionally, we allow paid advertisement/promotion for any of the prohibited social media platforms.
