Standoffish Developer May Have Worn Out Patience Of Steam Moderators

Steam

And they say…

You may or may not have hear of gladiator-sim Domina by Dolphin Barn. But things have finally hit something of a fever point. The devloper has been increasingly combative since May 2021, where he dropped some screed against “soft men” in the patch note. Surely, the best place to do that. He’s also earned bans on Twitter and Bandcamp* for the game’s account. He also managed to step in it by equating trans people with groomers and pedophiles using the game’s Twitter account.

*How hard do you have to fuck up to get banned from Bandcamp?!

Flash forward to now, where the dev claims he’s been temporarily banned from his own forums on Steam forums; he can still post patch notes, though. The latest is a real corker; he calls the Steam moderators “cowards” and claims that the negative review bombing, despite being flagged, has remained, with those flags removed by mods. Moreover, there is doubt the game will be receiving any updates via Steam, as the post goes on to say. He even shared, via personal Twitter account, a screenshot of the ban notification:

That point of contention from before, negative reviews, is worth taking stock of. While there are those screeching about the drama, a non-zero number of negative reviews are legit; they concern the dev’s decisions regarding updates and DLC.

It’s also worthy of note that Steam’s moderators are often pretty hands off. They really won’t be stirred to action unless you really shit the bed; in other words, you either need to have done something illegal, or be “straight up trolling” to get them to move like this. I probably shouldn’t have to point out how rare this stance is in tech. Almost every other platform has far more rules for creators to follow. A good example was the school shooter FPS Active Shooter, which was exactly what it says on the tin and was removed primarily because it was something of a troll game, but likely also for a number of other reasons (Jack Thompson’s crusade against GTA is still in living memory, after all).

If I were to take away anything about this entire situation, it wouldn’t be anything regarding the guy’s sociological ranting in general. It would be that the man has a shocking inability to avoid shitting where he eats. Opinions are like assholes; everyone has one, and he’s allowed to have his, no matter how much you might disagree with it. The fact that he’s doing it with his business-related accounts, though; that baffles me entirely.
