The Xiaomi “Yi” Action Cam Costs $64, Beats $130 GoPro Hero On Specs

Yi Action Cam

Xiaomi has just launched The Yi, its first action camera to the general public that is targeted to go head-to-head with the GoPro Hero. That’s all well and good, but just how well does the thing actually compare?

The Yi features a 16-megapixel camera that shoots 1080p video at 60 frames per second which is a step up from the Hero’s 1080p footage at 30 fps. Although the Hero can output 720p film at 60 fps. The Yi also comes loaded with 64GB of storage, doubling the storage capacity of the GoPro Hero.

This is all pretty great, but the real kicker is the price point that Xiaomi has set. The GoPro Hero retails at $130 and is a pretty good value for outdoor enthusiasts, The Yi is retailing for the insane price of $64. Not sure how they can manage that, but that’s what the price is right now on the company’s website.

The only problem is in wondering if we will ever see this thing come stateside in the near future. While Xiaomi, most known in China for their phones, doesn’t sell in the US, it does plan to open an online retail store for North America soon. The chances are good that Xiaomi will being this little darling over in an attempt to build a foothold in the US marketplace.
