Elden Ring PSA: Fia’s Panties Will Get You Banned

Elden Ring

panties, O panties

So if you’re reading this, chances are good that you’re enjoying Elden Ring. Which is why it’s important that you know this; don’t join the panty raid.

Specifically, avoid picking up armor dropped by random invaders and the like. I should probably explain.

See, every time a game is made, there’s usually some items that are left on the cutting room floor. In the case of Elden Ring, one such item is the Deathbed Smalls. The leg armor in question is, essentially, dummied out of the game; that is to say, they’re not obtainable by normal means, like most items in the game. The only ways to get them are by either hacking them into the game using something like Cheat Engine (in which case, you should probably play offline and give yourself item 1930300), or by picking up one that was dropped by a player in your game world who themselves hacked it into their game.

The problem is that they’re a hacked item you’re not supposed to have, and the game, like most Fromsoft Souls games, has a massive online component. So having hacked items in your inventory means punitive measures. Which in this case, involves a 180 day account quarantine; the only other players you can summon (or get invaded by) then are other quarantined players. Which is a significantly smaller summoning pool than usual, and Redditor JeSuisLePamplemous laid out in a thread.

If you eat an account quarantine, this is the message you’ll get (courtesy BugzBunnie on Reddit; also proof your average Redditor has a room-temperature IQ based on the responses Bugz got):

Elden Ring

And as you may have surmised, it doesn’t matter if you were the one that hacked the item in in the first place or not. If you pick up a hacked item that someone else dropped, you’ll get an account quarantine anyway. And while players have contacted Bandai Namco to contest the ban (JeSuisLePamplemous in particular) and found that the quarantine would be lifted, Bandai Namco explained that the ban would stick if it ever happened again, meaning that the only way to get unbanned would be to delete the save file. Which is a bit extreme, considering how long the game is.

The good news is that the Deathbed Smalls are probably one of the few dummied out items that are even tradeable. Most of the others seem to be tied to cut questlines and the like; since story-related items aren’t tradeable, you don’t need to be wary of everything dropped in your world. Just avoid picking up any armor items; if applicable, any leg-armor-items dropped in your world, assuming leg armor has a separate drop icon to other types of armor for the chest, hands or head.

The item in question, however, is interesting. Based on their name, they presumably belong to Fia, the Deathbed Companion, who has herself become one of the big Elden Ring memes due to the fact that she’ll hug you. However, Fia’s located in Roundtable Hold, an area where combat is banned (your weapon triggers are actually disabled there), meaning nobody in that area can normally be killed. Which means that if the Deathbed Smalls were originally supposed to be dropped by killing her, as is common for certain NPC’s in Souls games, they’re impossible to get. Even when she moves from Roundtable Hold, she can’t be killed. More curious, however, is that the description uses an earlier spelling of her name, hinting at the fact that they were likely removed somewhat earlier in development (her early development name was apparently Lady Yulia):

Skirt worn by Phia, the Deathbed Companion.

Oddly enough, the other part of the set the item belongs to is available in the game, the Deathbed Dress, which can be found in Leyndell. So why the Smalls got cut is a mystery, when they could’ve just been a double pick up with the dress like a number of other items in the game.
