10 Canceled & Unreleased PS1 Games

Games come and go, but it’s the ones that never see the light of day that are the real interesting one. Today we are going to take a look at ten PS1 games that were canceled and never saw the light of day. Let us know which of these games you would have most liked to see make it to release.

Spanish Blood

In development by Scavenger, Spanish Blood was an early PS1 and Saturn game that was shown off in some form during E3 1996. The studio had upwards of ten titles in development and not enough money coming, sometimes none at all, from their publishing partners. They closed before development on most of their games was fully underway.

TwinBee Miracle

TwinBee is a classic shooter series and TwinBee Miracle was supposed to be its step into a new generation of gaming. Instead of a traditional shooter the game was going to be a turn-based RPG. Imagine if the next mainline Call of Duty game was a card game instead of an FPS. This original game was canceled, but Japan did get that TwinBee RPG in a different form.

Under Pressure

This underwater shooter was in development by Rage Software and a mere few months away from being completed before EA pulled the plug on the whole thing. We could probably fill multiple lists with games EA canceled right before release.

Aqua Prophecy

A cancelled action adventure game, Aqua Prophecy was shown off at E3 1997 and what little information we have suggests it was to be an undersea exploration game. Perhaps it later inspired that Wii ocean game where the goal was to simply float around and look at fish.

Monster Force

This third-person hack and slash featured classic Universal and friends monsters in their kid forms. Makes sense it was a Universal project as they’ve been trying to get that who Monster Universe started about a half dozen times now. That may have failed but at least the game did release in some form on the Game Boy Advance.

HMS Carnage

This cancelled Victorian era steam-punk shooter set on Mars with the coolest name ever, was in development for nearly 3 years over at Ocean. Infogrames bought Ocean on their quest to own every European studio and decided to cancel the game because they had dreams of becoming the next EA.

Saboteur

Saboteur was set to be a fast paced combat adventure game, which fused genres and gameplay styles. The studio was adamant that the game was not a fighting game, and that it was neither an adventure game. No idea why the game didn’t see the light of day but we think it had to do with trying to do too many things at once.

Dead Unity

This cancelled Survival Horror game that was to play a lot like Resident Evil, but instead of zombies milling about there would have featured robots and various mechanical being out to get you in a science fiction setting. That’s actually a neat concept as some half-broken robots twitching about around dark corner is frightening. Of all the games on this list, this is one we think needs another chance.

Ghost Rider

Neversoft, before making it big with the Tony Hawk series, was working on a potential Ghost Rider game based on the Marvel Comic’s character. They did pretty great things with the Spider-Man license, so this side-scroller could have been a good bit of fun. The game got a tech demo but was canceled as the push for only 3D games was in full swing at publisher Crystal Dynamics.

Firo and Klawd 2: Holiday Highjinks

Firo and Klawd 2: Holiday Highjinks was to be a sequel to a game we’ve never even heard of. This top-down shooter used pre-rendered graphics for a comical look and feel. People and critics at the time thought the original game was a bad joke, and considering we’ve never heard of the first game, it’s no wonder this one got canceled.
