RomUniverse Owner Ordered By Nintendo To Destroy ROMs Or Else Face Perjury Chrages

Nintendo

You may remember the RomUniverse case from a couple of months back. But if you don’t, here’s a quick refresher: guy had a ROM site, charged a premium membership for access to high speed downloads, Nintendo takes him to court, he represents himself in court, Nintendo wins suit and forces guy to pay over $2 million in damages.

Anyway, that wasn’t the end of it. From the looks of new court documents , things are only getting worse for Matthew Storman. Nintendo asked the court to reconsider the injunction, as hypothetically, there would be nothing stopping Storman from simply taking his ROMs, opening up shop on a server not necessarily subject to copyright law, or by simply omitting the Nintendo ROMs (which Storman himself publicly floated as a possibility; which, in case the whole representing himself in court thing didn’t tip you off, is yet another example that this man is stupid). And so, after retrospect, and Storman missing several of his monthly $50 payments on that $2.1 million, the judge granted that injunction.

As such, Matthew Storman is now required to destroy all of his ROM files, in addition to any other infringing works including books, movies, and music. This has to be accomplished by August 17th, 2021, and a declaration of having done so filed by the 20th of August, 2021.

Moreover, he is not to, per TorrentFreak, “copy, distribute, sell or even play unauthorized copies of Nintendo games. Using Nintendo’s trademarks, logo’s or names in a ‘confusing’ manner is not allowed either”.

He really should’ve just forked over the $50 a month for the remainder of his natural life.
