8bit Zelda-like ARPG ‘Dawnthorn’ gets surprise trailer

Aloft Studio is happy to announce Dawnthorn, with a surprise trailer!

Dawnthorn is an 8bit Zelda-like ARPG which features period authenticity to the NES. That description is enough to grab my attention! Dawnthorn is the sister project to Hazelnut Bastille, to which it is a prequel.

Fans will recognize the gameplay to resemble The Legend of Zelda, Startropics 1 and 2, and to a lesser extent games like Link’s Awakening on the Gameboy, and The Adventures of Lolo. Dawnthorn is concerned with its involved combat system, emphasis on exploration and mystery, and a plethora of secrets hiding behind the surface.

After checking out the trailer is hard not to put the game on my list of “must try” titles. Look, I’m a sucker for some classic Zelda and this thing looks more Zelda than most recent Zelda games. And consider A Link to the Past is my favoeite game of all time, I’m already invested in this title. Fingers crossed it’s good. Please, be good!

Dawnthorn tells the story of the hero who wielded the eponymous blade before the events of Hazelnut Bastille. This hero journeys to a foreign shore to selflessly offer up his strength, to overcome a great cataclysm few even know exists. Guided by the wisdom of a cabal of lost sages who seem only concerned with zen-like mastery over soup-making, he will seek to undo the great tragedy of the ancients!

Dawnthorn is approximately 12-15 hours long, and will release in the Spring of 2019 for Windows / Mac / Linux on Steam, and likely the Switch and PS4 later, if it is well received!

Dawnthorn is also granted as a free gift to those who supported the Hazelnut Bastille Kickstarter, which is now ending!
