40 Containers ($300,000 worth) of RTX 3090s Have Been Stolen From a Factory In China

That’ll get you, Superman!

So maybe you’ve had some trouble getting your hands on an RTX 3090 recently. You’re not alone. But there may be such a thing as going too far. Because 40 containers of the sought-after GPU were stolen from a factory in China, today.

In total, since each card has an MSRP of about $1500, this theft tallies up to around $300,000 worth of hardware stolen. And it’s a smart steal, too, since high demand and low supply have enured that you could easily scalp them on the secondary market for far more than that.

MSI suspects it was an inside job, since the area the containers were located was under video surveillance, and all trucks, incoming and outgoing, are inspected. They’re offering a roughly $15,000 reward for information that leads them to the stolen cards, as well as clemency to anyone involved in the heist as long as they help recover the goods.

That said, if you’re worried about this affecting the market, rest easy. While there aren’t enough on the market, the total theft, after some math, adds up to around 200 units. Which is still a lot, but ultimately a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.
