Hey! Pikmin isn’t what you would expect from the really neat series. The game itself is a spinoff fromt he main series that is coming to the Nintendo 3DS on July 28th.
Announced via the Nintendo Direct stream, Hey! Pikmin puts casts players in the role of Captain Olimar as be buddies up with sentient plant things. After earning their trust he controls him to do his bidding. I might be making the series sound a lot darker than it really is.
The game does, in principle, play like the console games, only in a side-scrolling format. Bill Trinen of Nintendo stated that the game was “designed with action in mind.”
But the really odd thing is that Hey! Pikmin does not support any 3D functionality. This would be strage enough for a title on the 3DS from a third party, but this is a Nintendo game which makes it an interesting choice.
