That image above isn’t some fancy render in a 3D modeling program, instead it is from a video showing off the raw power of the Unreal Engine 4. This new engine is already making waves for the things that it can dow, but this 3D Paris apartment takes things to a whole new level. I have already shown it to a number of people and they have been taken aback when I told them it wasn’t a video of an apartment, but instead a complete 3D created environment with a video game engine.
Less than a few years ago this sort of thing was relegated to only the highest end movie production studios, but now a single person can put together these amazing visuals. While we are a long way out from seeing this sort of power implemented by todays consoles (PC’s much sooner), the knowledge that its available is impressive.
This Unreal Paris project by designer Dereau Benoît proves that Unreal Engine 4 can be used for much more than simply basic gaming. The level of detail he employed is truly breathtaking with the walls and ceilings full of intricate patterns, the sunlight flowing in from open windows around the apartment, the subtle shadows around and inside objects, real to life textures on objects, and even having mirror reflections that aren’t preprogrammed images, but instead based on the actual surroundings. Check out the video below to see just how impressive his work truly is.
