1979 Revolution: Black Friday playthrough: Inside Iran’s notorious prison

1979 Revolution

In anticipation of the game’s release on April 5th on STEAM/GOG/Humble Store, the team behind 1979 Revolution is sharing a full scene playthrough of the game.

Scene Description:

The scene, entitled “One of Us”, drops the player into the world of 1980, where you (Reza Shirazi) have been captured and detained in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, and are subjected to one of its most haunting interrogators.

For the first time, a game lifts the veil to this forbidden world.

“Today, anyone who is perceived to be a threat to the Iranian regime, including human rights defenders … is kept within the confines of Evin and other notorious prisons in Iran. To many Iranians, the concept of Evin prison is synonymous with political repression and torture,” Gissou Nia, former executive director of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center.

Gaming veteran and Rockstar Games alumni who founded iNK Stories Studio, Navid Khonsari, lights the fuse on yet another revolution: an immersive game, coined vérité games that allows audiences to explore, play, listen, and interact within the real events of the Iranian Revolution of 1979.  Deemed “A truly revolutionary game” by The New Yorker and one of the “Best Ideas” by TIME, 1979 REVOLUTION is set during an era-defining moment in modern history that echoes in today’s relations between the Middle East and the West. 1979 REVOLUTION pushes the boundaries of premium gaming bringing a player driven narrative within real events (historical assets, documentary content, graphic novel elements) unique gameplay mechanics in which decision-making is crucial.
