15 Minutes of Metal Gear Survive Gameplay

Metal Gear Survive sure is a thing. While I’m always one to reserve judgement until I get my hands on a game, Konami isn’t one to be known to have the best track record. I suppose we should at least be thankful we are getting another Metal Gear game that isn’t a sexy-fied Pachinko machine.

Metal Gear Survive isn’t anything “new” as it’s running off the current engine, but that game worked quite well so that isn’t a big deal. Where I, and I think most, people have an issue is with the entire concept behind the story. Metal Gear is already a weird series, but a giant black-hole that sucks up Big Boss’s buddies and throws them into zombie land is pushing it.

“The more I see of Metal Gear Survive the more the game intrigues me.”

At the Tokyo Game Show we finally got out first look at how Metal Gear Survive will work with a 15-minute gameplay demo. The most important thing to note is the co-op that was shown off during the entirety of the mission. Everything else is stock MGSV with some slight changes. The most notable the Fulton balloons that are still around, but now mini portal things.

The zombie things themselves are also shown and we learn how to deal with them in various ways. There is a nice mix here and for the first time in a long time Metal Gear is looking to place heavy reliance on stealth. Konami also showed off some of the new weapons and tools at your disposal including the new slingshot weapon that looks like fun.

The more I see of Metal Gear Survive the more the game intrigues me. Still, I would have loved to see this game turned into a new IP from Konami (when pigs fly) that was built on the engine that MGSV used. Check out the demo for yourself below and let me know what you think.
